Backyard padel court with glass walls, turf and lighting

Padel Court Construction in the Bay Area

Padel is one of the fastest-growing racket sports in the world, and the Bay Area has caught on. Clubs have opened in San Francisco, South San Francisco and Sunnyvale, and a new outdoor club opened in downtown San Jose in 2026. More homeowners, clubs and campuses now want a court of their own.

Menlo Pacific Construction is a licensed general contractor in Redwood City (CSLB #1146901). We build padel and multi-use sport courts across the Peninsula, the South Bay and San Francisco, and we handle the whole job, from site walk to lighting.

Why Padel

Padel is easy to pick up, social and played in doubles on a court about a third the size of a tennis court. The walls are in play, so rallies run longer and beginners have fun right away. For an owner, that means a court people actually use, on a footprint that fits where tennis won't.

What We Build

  • Backyard courts. Private courts for homeowners, planned around your lot, setbacks, drainage and neighbors.

  • Clubs and facilities. Single or multi-court builds for operators, with the layout, access and lighting a busy club needs.

  • HOAs and communities. Shared courts that add an amenity residents want, built to hold up to heavy use.

  • Corporate and school campuses. Courts for employee wellness and recreation programs, coordinated with your facilities team.

  • Multi-use courts. Where padel isn't the only goal, we also build courts for pickleball, basketball and volleyball.

Our Process

  1. Site assessment. We check size, slope, soil, drainage, access and utilities to confirm the court fits.

  2. Design and permits. We coordinate drawings and your city's permit requirements for grading, structure, enclosure height, lighting and setbacks.

  3. Grading and drainage. We prepare a level, well-drained base.

  4. Concrete slab. We pour a reinforced slab, flat to tight tolerances, so the surface and enclosure go on true.

  5. Glass and mesh enclosure. We install the steel frame, tempered glass walls and metal mesh panels.

  6. Turf and lines. We lay the artificial turf, add infill and mark the lines.

  7. Lighting and walkthrough. We install court lighting for evening play, then walk the finished court with you.

What Affects Cost

Every court is priced on its own site. The main factors are:

  • Site conditions: slope, soil, access for equipment and how much grading and drainage work is needed

  • Indoor or outdoor, and for outdoor courts, any canopy or cover

  • The enclosure system, including panoramic versus standard glass and the structure grade

  • Turf type and quality

  • Lighting design and electrical service

  • Permit requirements and any required engineering

  • Extras like seating, landscaping and pathways

We give you a clear, itemized bid so you can see where the money goes.

FAQ

How big is a padel court?
A regulation padel court is 20 m long by 10 m wide (about 65.6 ft by 32.8 ft), measured inside the enclosure. Plan for a somewhat larger footprint, roughly 21 m by 11 m at minimum, to fit the structure, plus room for access around it.

Do I need a permit?
Usually, yes. Most Bay Area cities review court projects for grading, structures, enclosure height, lighting and setbacks. Requirements vary by city and sometimes by HOA, and we help you sort out what applies before construction starts.

How long does it take to build?
It depends on permit review time, how much site work the property needs, enclosure lead times and weather. Once we've seen the site, we'll give you a schedule built around your project.

Indoor or outdoor?
Both work. Outdoor courts cost less to house and suit much of the Peninsula and South Bay climate. Indoor courts allow year-round play regardless of weather, but they need a building with a lot of height. The International Padel Federation (FIP) sets a minimum of 6 m of clear height over the court and recommends 8 m for new facilities.
